How to Repurpose One Video Shoot Into a Month of Content

Editing suite showing one video cut into vertical, square and widescreen formats

A common story: a business invests in a well-produced brand video, posts it once, shares it on LinkedIn, and a week later it’s buried in the feed. The video was fine. The plan for it wasn’t.

The most cost-effective video marketing doesn’t come from making more shoots. It comes from getting more out of each one. With some planning, a single shoot day can supply a month or more of content across your website, social channels, ads and email.

Start with the plan, not the edit

Repurposing works best when it’s designed before filming. If you only think about cutdowns after the shoot, you’ll find the footage is all widescreen, the best lines run 40 seconds, and there’s nothing framed for vertical video. At pre-production, list every place the content will live:

  • Website homepage and service pages
  • Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts (9:16 vertical)
  • LinkedIn and Facebook feeds (1:1 or 4:5)
  • Paid ads (6, 15 and 30-second versions)
  • Email campaigns and sales presentations
  • Still photography for socials and your website

With that list in hand, the crew can frame shots with room for vertical crops, capture punchy standalone soundbites, and grab behind-the-scenes content along the way.

What one shoot day can produce

Here’s a typical breakdown from a single, well-planned day:

  1. Hero video (60–120 seconds): the polished centrepiece for your website and YouTube.
  2. Three to five short cutdowns (15–30 seconds): each focused on one idea, benefit or service.
  3. Vertical edits: reframed versions of the strongest moments for Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
  4. Soundbite clips: single, strong quotes from interviews, captioned for LinkedIn.
  5. Ad variations: different hooks and calls-to-action for testing in paid campaigns.
  6. Stills: high-resolution frames or dedicated photos for blog headers and social posts.
  7. Behind-the-scenes clips: casual, authentic content that often outperforms polished edits on social.

Write for soundbites

If your video includes interviews, ask questions that invite short, self-contained answers. “What’s the one thing clients notice first?” gets a better clip than “Tell us about the business.” Ask interviewees to repeat the question in their answer (“The first thing clients notice is…”) so each clip makes sense on its own.

Shoot for multiple aspect ratios

Modern cinema cameras record enough resolution to crop a vertical frame from a widescreen shot. That only works if the camera operator keeps the key subject centred with space around it. For important moments, it’s worth capturing a dedicated vertical angle as well. Decide this at pre-production so it doesn’t slow the day down.

Schedule the rollout

A simple four-week rollout might look like this:

  • Week 1: launch the hero video on your website, YouTube and LinkedIn, and email it to your list.
  • Week 2: publish two short cutdowns and a behind-the-scenes clip.
  • Week 3: share soundbite clips and start paid testing with two ad variations.
  • Week 4: post the best-performing clip again in a new format and use stills for a blog post.

Then keep the library working. Evergreen clips can be reposted every few months, used in proposals, or added to service pages.

Measure and double down

Track which clips get the most watch time, saves, shares and enquiries, and use that to shape the next shoot. Over time you’ll learn which messages and formats your audience responds to, and each production gets more efficient. Our guide to measuring video marketing ROI covers what to track.

FAQs

Does repurposing cost more?

Extra edits add some post-production time, but planning them in advance is far cheaper than organising separate shoots for each platform.

Can you repurpose a video that’s already been made?

Often, yes, especially if the raw footage is available. How far you can go depends on how it was framed and how the interviews were recorded.

How many clips should we post per week?

Consistency beats volume. Two to three quality posts a week is sustainable for most small and medium businesses.
